29 H-E-B Stores to be equipped with cryptocurrency ATMs in Texas
Cryptocurrency users in Texas have been dreaming of making their purchases and paying with digital currencies. The problem is, until now, there was no law that allowed them to do so. However, the situation is changing since Governor Greg Abbott said he was a “crypto law proposal supporter”.
The 2,000th machine already installed
Shoppers looking to pay for their groceries and other goods from supermarkets with cryptocurrencies may soon be able to do so. According to a report from the Houston Chronicle published on Friday, the company H-E-B is planning to install Coin Cloud cryptocurrency ATMs. In total, 29 H-E-B stores in the Houston area will soon see the machines installed.
The ATMs will allow customers to buy and sell more than 30 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE) and Litecoin (LTC). The list of DeFi tokens and stablecoins to be added will be revealed later.
Chris McAlary, CEO and founder of Coin Cloud, encouraged the initiative. It will allow all retailers to become “increasingly aware of the important role digital currency plays in the future”.
Waiting for the project to enter its active phase, the cryptocurrency ATM company is said to have already installed its 2,000th machine in an H-E-B store. With this machine, customers could make cryptocurrency transactions using cash, credit cards and debit cards.
Texas, a hotspot of cryptocurrency mining companies
Texas is definitely on its way to becoming a real centre of attraction when it comes to using and buying cryptocurrencies. It has already become one for crypto mining companies, due to its renewable energy resources and its electricity grid that remains poorly regulated by the state.
As a sign of cryptocurrency mining companies’ interest in Texas, Blockcap has recently announced that it would set up offices there. Riot Blockchain has also planned to acquire a mining facility to the east of the state capital for some $650 million.
Let’s get back to H-E-B. Launched in 1905, it is one of the oldest chains in Texas. The company has been ranked the 13th best food retailer in North America.
Many Texas residents are very supportive of the expansion of the company’s business activity, since it regularly distributes food during major disasters, such as the massive winter storm that occurred earlier this year.
At this point in time, Texas is one of the most crypto-friendly states in the US. It proves this once again by authorizing the project to install several cryptocurrency ATMs in H-E-B supermarkets.
