A Venezuelan gubernatorial candidate José Alejandro Terán pledged to provide scholarships to students who enter the Centro de Formación Tecnica to study digital assets.

José Alejandro Terán, a gubernatorial candidate representing the country’s ruling party, offered to provide scholarship to the students who study NFT along with mining and trading crypto. The training course organised by the Axie Infinity Academy will teach how to install and repair networks, mine and trade crypto. The initiative is a part of La Guaira Digital programme, which aims at stimulating economic stability in Venezuela.

The National Office for Crypto Assets and Related Operations of Venezuela (Sunacrip), the Axie Infinity Academy, the Independientes con Terán political group and young members of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, the country’s ruling party, support Terán’s proposal.

The policy-maker published an Instagram post:

“I am young and I believe in the digital economy. By helping people create multiple sources of income, we ensure a solid financial situation for their families. I’m going to become the first governor of Venezuela who will develop digital technologies and cryptocurrency mining, as well as organise trading courses. In the first 100 days after my arrival as governor, 300 jobs for young people will be created, and within a year this figure will increase to 1,000. The goal is set and we will achieve it. Together.”

Charts and ratings

Venezuela is ranked sixth in the Global Crypto Adoption Index, as per statistics compiled by Chainalysis.

LocalBitcoins P2P analysis show that Venezuela is leading the charts in BTC trading.

The interest in digital assets is heated by the unstable economic situation. Venezuelan citizens consider crypto assets a good means to preserve value and safeguard it from inflation.

In August, the Central Bank of Venezuela announced the launch of a digital bolívar. The financial regulator believes that the CBDC will help reduce the transaction time to a few seconds and lower transaction costs.
