Binance cryptocurrency trading platform announced that it had hired two former special agents from the IRS’s Criminal Investigation Cyber Crimes Unit (IRS-CI).

Binance welcomes newcomers

Binance has announced that two former special agents of the IRS-CI has been recruited to increase the degree of compliance with regulatory requirements. The first newcomer to the trading platform team was Tigran Gambaryan, IRS-CI special agent, who participated in such high-profile investigations as the Mt.Gox hack and the Silk Road darknet marketplace takedown.

Gambaryan has extensive experience in investigating cases related to national security, terrorist financing, identity theft, distribution of child pornography, tax evasion and violations of the Bank Secrecy Act.

Gambaryan will be working alongside the team’s current Chief Security Officer Jimmy Su. Together, they will be responsible for the audit and investigation team, which focuses on preventing foreign and national threats.

“We will work closely with our colleagues in compliance to identify criminals and refer them for prosecution. The constantly evolving crypto industry requires strong cooperation between the industry, law enforcement, and regulators. Our goal is to increase trust in cryptocurrency by establishing Binance as the leading contributor in the fight against human trafficking, ransomware, and terrorism financing,” stated Gambaryan.

The second ex-IRS specialist to join the Binance team was Matthew Price. He took up the post of Senior Director of Investigations.

Price has long been working in law enforcement, and has repeatedly led investigations that targeted “bad actors who sought to exploit cryptocurrency for illicit purposes.”

Matthew commented: “As a criminal investigator, I quickly learned that the key to success in crypto investigations is working closely with those within both the private and public sectors. I plan to leverage the skills I developed as an investigator to stay one step ahead of emerging threats in the crypto space. My interest in joining Binance stems from my desire to further strengthen government and industry collaboration to ensure crypto continues to grow and flourish throughout the world. At Binance, our team will focus on identifying and mitigating these emerging threats and collaborating closely with law enforcement and regulatory bodies to ensure the larger crypto ecosystem is a safer place for all.”

It is clear that Binance takes all the steps to ensure that the exchange is safe and sound, and that everyone complies with the established regulations. Way to go!
