The DFB turns to Sorare

The DFB has officially announced the launch of the National Football Team Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT).

This move was made available thanks to a partnership with Sorare, a leading provider of fantasy football on Ethereum.

As part of an official license agreement, the DFB will create collectible digital cards of 18 players from the German national team via Sorare’s platform, with more players to be added in the next year. The cards will be available for use in the game for the Euro 2020 football championship.

“The DFB is a four-time world champion and three-time European champion which makes it one the most successful national teams in the world. What is more, Germany is the market where we’re growing the fastest for the past three months”, said Nicolas Julia, CEO of Sorare. It’s a major milestone for Sorare and the NFT ecosystem to see them launch digital collectibles. It is the first of many football associations that will be joining us in the coming weeks and months”, he added.New sources of revenue and fan engagement

By issuing NFT player cards on Sorare`s platform, the DFB aims to tap into new revenue streams as well as create more fan engagement opportunities.

These measures are especially relevant as COVID-19 restrictions have resulted in limited game attendance in recent months.

“Especially in the pandemic, digital offers were and are the only way to enter into direct exchange with our fans. But even though the coronavirus crisis will hopefully soon be over, we want to continue to use the possibilities of digitalisation much more intensively, also with our partners, and offer our fans new interactive opportunities”, said Holger Blask, the DFB managing director of marketing and sales.

The DFB chose a perfect digital strategy. Sorare is their second partner in regards to blockchain-based digital collectibles after FANZONE.

That’s great news for Sorare, but it won’t be the first time the Germans partner with the French digital collectibles company. In fact, Les Blues appeared in Sorare in early June. What about you? Which football team would you like to play with on Sorare?
