BTG Pactual, Latin America’s largest investment bank, announced on Monday, 20th September, that they plan to launch a platform that will allow BTG Pactual Digital and BTG+ clients to trade Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) and other digital currencies directly.

Latin America’s crypto sector continues to grow

The platform will be called Mynt and will be available in the last quarter of 2021, making BTG Pactual the first major financial institution in Brazil to participate directly in the crypto market.

According to André Portilho, head of Digital Assets at BTG Pactual, the platform was created due to a large demand from Latin America’s crypto investors.

“At this first moment, we will have the two main assets of the market, but we will include other cryptos for trading over time. We will have a complete platform with blockchain-based assets,” said Portilho.

Mynt’s representatives will provide different types of educational and informational content on blockchain technologies, crypto trading, and different cryptocurrencies, not just Bitcoin and Ethereum.

BTG Pactual, which ranks among Latin America’s largest investment banks and offers wealth management, corporate lending, asset management and sales and trading services, joined the crypto industry back in 2017 but issued its ReitBZ security token only in 2019, followed by a BTC fund in April 2021.

According to Portilho, BTG Pactual enjoys a special status of a bank regulated by The Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil (CVM). Therefore, this position will allow the bank to grant legitimacy and credibility to the growing crypto sector.

As a consultant or financier, BTG Pactual helps companies, other financial institutions and governments to obtain funding via the issuance of securities, and structured and guaranteed loans. It also provides services in M&A, IPOs, FX operations, as well as trading in derivatives and commodities. Since 2010, it has been an active bank in the provision of advisory services in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in Latin America. The bank works in cross border transactions, involving counterparties from all continents and most of the IPOs and secondary offers made in the Brazilian market.

BTG Pactual plans to launch a platform for blockchain-based investments by the end of the year. BTG Pactual’s crypto arm, called Mynt, will allow Brazilian investors exposure to Bitcoin and Ethereum.
