Stripe to restart Bitcoin (BTC) payments
More and more companies announce the launch of crypto payment, which is not surprising, given the crypto market’s exponential growth over the past year. In addition, companies that used to provide such services, but later terminated them due to their complexity and volatility, also feel ready to give crypto a second chance.
For instance, Stripe, a popular online payment company that terminated the Bitcoin (BTC) payment option nearly three years ago, may start accepting crypto once again.
John Collison on crypto and its advantages
Judging by the latest interview with Stripe Co-Founder John Collison, the situation has changed dramatically. Collison acknowledged the progress made by cryptocurrencies over the past three years, adding that “there have been a lot of developments of late with an eye to making cryptocurrencies better and, in particular, scalable and acceptable cost as a payment method.”
At the same time, he said that cryptocurrencies still have some issues, but this does not mean that they won’t ever be used by Stripe as an alternative payment method. “We don’t yet, but I think it’s not implausible that we would,” Collison concluded.
Stripe co-founder praises Solana
John also said a few words about Stripe’s new crypto team, led by the head of the engineering department, Guillaume Poncin. Co-founder of Paradigm, Matt Huang, a well-known expert in the crypto industry, has also recently joined the team.
At the end of his interview, Collison praised new crypto tokens that could enable easy and hassle-free transactions, particularly highlighting Solana’s (SOL) successes which have propelled it to Top-5.
As an online payment company, Stripe is well aware of the amazing opportunities crypto can provide. According to John Collison, integrating digital assets is a matter of time, with payment giants like PayPal, Venmo, and even VISA already offering crypto as a means of payment.
