US restaurant to accept Bitcoin (BTC)
On Tuesday, Bakkt Holdings teamed up with Quiznos, a submarine sandwich shop chain, based in Denver, Colorado. According to the official announcement, a joint pilot project is being developed to enable Bitcoin payments.
Airport is a hot spot
Bakkt’s representatives noted that the Denver airport is expected to become the main venue for the pilot project. Visitors will be able to use the Bakkt app to pay for the order. A huge buzz is already going on around the Quiznos restaurant at the airport, while the opening night is scheduled for mid-August.
Mark Lohmann, President of REGO Restaurant Group, which owns Quiznos and other national QSR chains, believes the partnership to turn out rather advantageous. “Partnering with an innovative platform such as Bakkt is appealing to us for a number of reasons, primarily because it allows us to accept bitcoin directly at the point of sale as part of a quick and seamless transaction,” he stated.
Lohmann emphasises that the upcoming collaboration paves the way for digitalisation: “As we continue our digital transformation journey and respond to mobile and millennial consumer demand for alternative and cryptocurrency payment options, we are excited to offer yet another accessible way for customers to buy a meal.”
According to the press release, customers who have downloaded the Bakkt app, acquired BTC and used it to buy food at the Quiznos restaurant will be offered a $15 (~£11) reward in Bitcoin.
Bring crypto to the masses
The partnership with Quiznos is not the first Bitcoin-friendly initiative for Bakkt. Back in April 2021, the company announced a collaboration with Starbucks. This project is also aimed to unlock Bitcoin payments in the Bakkt app.
Moreover, Bakkt has introduced a new Visa crypto card to bring their customers the joy of spending cryptos wherever Visa is accepted.
