What Is Qubic AGI Lab Organizing in Basel on Saturday?
Qubic AGI Lab, a non-profit association under Swiss law, brings the Qubic community together in Basel. Qubic is a blockchain whose mining also trains an artificial intelligence, an approach Cointribune explored in how Qubic turns every CPU cycle into real-world value. Instead of solving puzzles with no other use, miners run computations that help a neural network called Aigarth evolve.
This mechanism is called Useful Proof of Work: the energy spent securing the network also produces useful computing work. Our guide to Useful Proof of Work explains how it differs from Bitcoin-style mining.
“A day of talks and a panel on decentralized AGI, Aigarth and Useful Proof of Work on the Qubic network. Open to everyone: community, developers, researchers and anyone curious.”

The association covers the costs, and donations are welcome on site.
What Is on the Program?
The day mixes talks, hands-on mining sessions and a closing panel, according to the schedule published by the organizers.
| Time | Session | Speaker |
|---|---|---|
| 10:00 | Welcome | Qubic AGI Lab |
| 10:15 | Keynote: Aigarth, growing intelligence instead of training it | Dr. José Sánchez García |
| 10:55 | What decentralized AGI means for Qubic | joetom |
| 11:35 | Useful Proof of Work and mining in practice (parallel sessions in English and German) | frog-rabbit, Pomm3sgab3l |
| 13:30 | Building on Qubic: tooling and APIs for the ecosystem | mio |
| 14:30 | Panel: Where is decentralized AGI heading? | José Sánchez García, joetom |
| 15:15 | Open discussion and Q&A with the speakers | All speakers |
| 16:00 | Apéro riche |
Who Are the Speakers?
The keynote speaker, Dr. José Sánchez García, is a neuroscientist with a PhD in psychology from the Complutense University of Madrid, according to his faculty profile at UNIR, the Spanish online university where he teaches cognitive and behavioral neuroscience. The same profile credits him with around 20 papers in top-ranked (Q1 and Q2) journals on social emotions and the self, and with advisory work for international football bodies, including FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation.
At Qubic, he is the scientific advisor on bio-inspired artificial general intelligence and co-inventor of Neuraxon, a neural model inspired by how the brain grows and computes. He co-authored the Neuraxon 2.0 paper in 2025 and Multi-Neuraxon in 2026, according to his own website. His keynote and the closing panel are the scientific heart of the day.
Alongside him, joetom, Qubic’s Core Tech Lead, works on the core protocol and distributed systems in high-performance C++. The mining sessions are run by frog-rabbit, an electrical and hardware engineer, in English, and by Pomm3sgab3l, who works on software and mining infrastructure, in German. mio, a software developer specializing in APIs and product development, leads the afternoon session on building tools for the Qubic ecosystem.
How Do You Register for Saturday?
Registration takes place on the official event page, in English or German. It is free and helps the organizers plan seating and food, with a cap of 70 attendees, so it is better to sign up before Saturday than to show up at the door.
The venue, Escape Bar, is at Gasstrasse 1, 4056 Basel. The apéro that follows the talks at 4 p.m. is the easiest moment to meet the speakers in person.
On Saturday, November 7, from 10 a.m., the 2:30 p.m. panel on the future of decentralized AGI is the session to watch, since it brings Qubic’s scientific advisor and core tech lead together on one question: how far a network of miners can push an artificial intelligence. If the mining sessions spark your curiosity, our complete 2026 guide to mining QUBIC covers the next steps.
