In brief
- Bitcoin briefly fell below 77,000 dollars, triggering high tension across the entire crypto market.
- Nearly 600 million dollars worth of positions were liquidated in one hour after this brutal correction.
- US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded significant capital outflows, increasing selling pressure.
- Despite the current volatility, long-term investors continue accumulating BTC according to on-chain data.
Bitcoin’s plunge triggers a cascade of liquidations
Bitcoin fell below 77,000 dollars, reaching a low near 76,687 dollars. The correction immediately caused a severe purge in the derivatives markets.
The crypto market recorded nearly 600 million dollars in liquidations within one hour. This flash drop mainly hit overexposed long positions, caught off guard by the sudden acceleration of selling pressure.
The key elements observed during this drop are as follows :
- Bitcoin fell below 77,000 dollars ;
- The mentioned low reached about 76,687 dollars ;
- About 600 million dollars worth of positions were liquidated in one hour ;
- US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net outflows of nearly 13,000 BTC over the week ;
- Over 4,000 BTC related to these outflows concern ARK-linked products.
This movement comes as US spot Bitcoin ETFs go through a marked slowdown phase. Such dynamics have increased uncertainty around institutional flows, while the market was already trying to regain stability after several tense sessions. The break below 77,000 dollars served as a technical trigger, mechanically accelerating forced sales on leveraged platforms.
Long-term investors strengthen their positions
While short-term traders suffered the correction, on-chain data shows a very different reaction among historical Bitcoin holders. According to CryptoQuant, the supply held by long-term investors continues to grow despite current volatility. Analyst Darkfost notes that “the supply held by long-term holders (LTH) continues to increase, investors holding onto their BTC”. The amount of bitcoins held by these wallets now reaches 15.26 million BTC, an unprecedented level since August 2025.
The same analysis indicates that about 316,000 BTC have been accumulated by these investors over the last thirty days. This behavior sharply contrasts with that observed last November, when these same actors reduced their reserves by about 650,000 BTC over a similar period. Thus, this trend indicates a different reading of the market: where speculative positions react to immediate volatility, long-term holders seem to view the correction as a strategic accumulation phase.
This contrast between rapid capitulation and gradual accumulation could impact the coming weeks in the crypto market. Massive liquidations reflect persistent fragility of leveraged positions, while on-chain data shows some investors continue to strengthen their exposure to Bitcoin despite volatility. If this accumulation trend continues, it could help absorb part of the current selling pressure and redefine the market balance.
