Bitget Raises Forex Leverage to 2,000x on 21 Pairs

Summarize this article with:

Bitget has raised maximum leverage to 1:2000 on 21 forex CFD pairs, effective November 1. The headline sounds impressive. However, the exchange’s own trading rules bring that leverage down to 1:200 during economic data releases, precisely when market volatility tends to pick up.

A trader faces the dizzying 2,000x Forex leverage offered by Bitget, caught between spectacular opportunities and extreme financial risks.

In Brief

  • The first 50,000 USDT of notional exposure carries a 0.05% margin rate, which is 1:2000. Higher tiers apply above that.
  • At that ratio, 50,000 USDT of exposure requires 25 USDT of margin, and a 0.05% move against the position erases it.
  • Bitget’s own rules drop forex leverage to 1:200 from 15 minutes before a data release until 5 minutes after, a reduction the announcement does not mention.

1:2000 Leverage Looks Great Until You Check the Margin

The new offer covers major and cross-currency pairs involving the euro, pound, US dollar, yen, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, and Swiss franc. It also adds another dimension to Bitget’s expanding CFD business, following the exchange’s $1.86 trillion trading volume in Q3 2026.

However, the headline leverage ratio only tells part of the story. According to Bitget’s margin schedule, the 0.05% margin rate applies to the first 50,000 USDT of exposure. Traders face higher margin requirements as their positions move into subsequent tiers.

Consider a 50,000 USDT position. At 1:2000, it requires only 25 USDT in initial margin. However, a 0.05% move against the position represents a 25 USDT loss. In other words, the entire initial margin is at stake.

On EUR/USD, a 0.05% price movement amounts to roughly five pips. Meanwhile, a one-pip spread already eats up 20% of that initial margin.

That’s a remarkably thin cushion. Even routine intraday price movements can put highly leveraged positions under serious pressure.

The Economic Calendar Comes With a Leverage Cut

Here’s where things get interesting. On November 7, Bitget’s CFD team published a separate notice covering the second week of November.

The notice explains that forex leverage falls to 1:200 from 15 minutes before an economic data release until five minutes after it. Gold and indices drop to 1:100, silver to 1:50, and commodities to 1:5.

For forex traders, that’s a tenfold reduction from the newly advertised maximum. And the timing matters: interest rate decisions and economic releases are precisely the events that Bitget highlights in its announcement.

There’s another detail worth watching. Any position adjustment during these restricted windows, including closing a trade or changing a stop-loss, triggers a margin recalculation across all positions using the reduced leverage ratio.

So, missing an economic calendar alert could prove expensive. Bitget applies these restrictions automatically on trading days, according to its notice.

A Big Announcement After the Change Went Live

The publication dates raise another question. Bitget’s press release carries a November 5, 2026, dateline from Victoria, Seychelles. Yet its original support notice dates back to October 30 at 09:29 and confirms that the new leverage structure took effect on November 1.

In other words, the exchange announced the change to a wider audience four days after implementation.

That isn’t necessarily unusual or improper. Still, the difference in communication is worth noting: Bitget gave the 1:2000 figure a press release, while the temporary leverage restrictions appeared in a separate weekly notice.

For context, European and UK regulations cap retail forex leverage at 1:30, while US rules generally limit it to 1:50. Bitget operates from Seychelles and does not claim those licenses, so these figures provide a regulatory comparison rather than evidence of a breach.

The exchange previously raised XAUUSD leverage to 2,000x, while similar tiered margins and temporary restrictions apply across its products. Ultimately, 1:2000 makes an attractive headline. But traders should read the margin schedule and economic calendar before celebrating. Leverage may be high, but the room for error is anything but
