XRP Ledger May Add Zero Knowledge Technology To Protect Transactions
Transparency of public blockchains is both their strength and their limitation. Every transaction is visible, a feature that still deters some businesses and institutions. The XRP Ledger could soon provide an answer to this dilemma. A key contributor to the XRPL ecosystem has revealed the outlines of a development based on Zero-Knowledge Proofs, a technology that allows validating a transaction without disclosing the sensitive data it contains. This is a breakthrough likely to change how privacy is viewed on the XRP network.

In Brief
- The XRP Ledger could move to a new stage by exploring the integration of Zero-Knowledge Proofs to enhance transaction privacy.
- A key contributor from the XRPL ecosystem reveals the contours of this innovation, which would allow verifying a transaction without revealing sensitive data.
- Several pieces of information could remain confidential, such as the transaction amount, sender’s address, recipient’s address, or the type of asset transferred.
- This development could increase the appeal of the XRP network, especially to businesses and institutions seeking greater blockchain privacy.
The XRP Ledger Explores Zero-Knowledge Proofs
A prominent contributor to the XRP Ledger, known by the pseudonym Vet, described a major technical development underway on the network. According to him, integrating Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKP) could allow verifying transactions without revealing certain critical information.
Vet explains that this technology would allow proving the validity of a transaction “without revealing the underlying data”.
In practice, several sensitive elements could remain confidential while being validated by the network :
- The transaction amount ;
- The sender’s address ;
- The recipient’s address ;
- The type of asset transferred.
In classic public blockchains, every transaction remains visible on the distributed ledger. Integrating ZKPs would introduce a different mechanism: the validity of a transaction could be confirmed without publicly exposing all the data it contains. This approach aims to address a common criticism directed at public networks, often seen as too transparent for some professional or financial uses.
A Privacy Model Compatible with Compliance
Beyond the purely technical aspect, discussions around this development also include establishing a framework that reconciles privacy with regulatory requirements. Vet specifically mentions the idea of viewing keys, which could be used by auditors or regulators to review certain transactions when necessary. This approach aims to maintain a balance between data protection and the ability to control at the level of Ripple crypto.
The project would also rely on the development of the XLS-372 standard, designed to enable the creation of multi-use confidential tokens called “Confidential MPT”. These assets could benefit from privacy mechanisms while remaining integrated into the XRP Ledger ecosystem. In this context, privacy would not be absolute but configurable according to the needs of crypto users and compliance requirements.
If these proposals materialize, the XRP Ledger, thanks to this update, could evolve toward a hybrid model combining transparency, selective privacy, and auditability. Such a crypto architecture could attract institutional players looking to leverage blockchain infrastructures without exposing sensitive financial data. This direction illustrates the growing willingness of some networks to overcome the traditional opposition between total transparency and privacy by exploring solutions that can satisfy both imperatives.
