Summarize this article with:

Binance remains the largest crypto exchange platform in the world. However, it has not been accessible to French residents since July 1, 2026, due to the lack of MiCA approval. This double fact changes everything in a Binance review in 2026: the fees and catalog remain excellent, the regulatory question settles the debate. Here is our analysis, and the alternatives still on the table.

Avis Binance 2026 : que vaut encore le géant depuis son retrait de France ?

In brief

  • Binance France confirmed it will not obtain MiCA approval before June 30, 2026: no more crypto-asset services in France since July 1.
  • Spot fees of 0.10%, more than 350 crypto-assets: the offer remains very competitive for those who still have access.
  • SAFU fund of about 1 billion dollars and monthly proof of reserves, but a heavy regulatory past ($4.3 billion fine in 2023).
  • Withdrawals and position exits remain possible for existing French accounts.
  • Among the alternatives: CASP approved platforms, and MEXC for catalog depth with a regulatory reservation to be aware of.

Binance in 2026: the fact that changes everything

Let’s start with the essential, because it makes half of the opinions published on the subject obsolete. The European MiCA regulation required any platform serving Union clients to obtain CASP approval from a national regulator. The transitional period ended on June 30, 2026. Binance informed its French users that no group entity would obtain this approval on time. Consequence: the platform no longer accepts new users in France and has ceased offering crypto-asset services there.

Its application with the Greek regulator got bogged down. The group states it is not leaving Europe and seeks “another way,” without specifying the targeted country. Existing accounts can reduce positions and withdraw assets as part of an orderly exit. By mid-July 2026, about 280 companies were listed in ESMA’s CASP register; Binance is not among them.

ESMA and European supervisory authorities remind that crypto-assets only offer limited consumer protection, and the AMF publishes a guide to choosing a professional. Checking this status before opening an account has become the number one reflex.

COINTRIBUNE VERDICT — Binance (July 2026): 5.5/10 for a French resident
Overall rating5.5 / 10 (France) — 7.5 / 10 outside the EU
Fees9/10 — 0.10% spot, among the lowest in the market
Asset choice9/10 — more than 350 crypto-assets listed in Europe
Security7/10 — SAFU fund of about $1B, monthly proof of reserves
EU compliance2/10 — no MiCA approval; services stopped in France
For whom?Active traders outside the European Union. Unsuitable for French residents since July 2026.

Fees, assets and features: strong points intact

On the pure product side, Binance remains hard to fault. Standard spot fees stand at 0.10%, with additional discounts for BNB holders, a level few players match. The catalog exceeded 350 crypto-assets on the European side, with more than 1,500 trading pairs.

The ecosystem is rich: savings, staking, Launchpool, card, derivatives with leverage up to x125. This last point exposes to a rapid capital loss and is unsuitable for beginners. Achilles’ heel: purchase by credit card, with a spread of 1.8% to 2%.

Security and regulation: the contrast

Technically, the record is solid. The SAFU fund, created in 2018, is about a billion dollars and was used to fully reimburse the victims of the 2019 hack. Monthly proofs of reserves, majority cold storage, mandatory two-factor authentication on withdrawals.

The regulatory past, however, weighs heavily. In November 2023, Binance concluded with the US Department of Justice, the CFTC and the Treasury an agreement with a total fine of $4.3 billion, for historic failures in anti-money laundering and sanctions controls. Its founder Changpeng Zhao left management shortly after. Since then, the platform has heavily invested in compliance; the failure to obtain MiCA approval shows the work is not finished.

Advantages and disadvantages

What it is credited for:

  • Spot fees among the lowest in the market (0.10%).
  • Liquidity depth and a catalog without real equivalent.
  • A security cushion (SAFU) and a transparency policy on reserves.

What it is criticized for:

  • No MiCA approval: services stopped in France since July 1, 2026.
  • A massive sanctions history ($4.3B in 2023).
  • High credit card fees, intimidating Pro interface, and uneven support.

Who is Binance still suitable for?

The answer has become simple: active traders living outside the European Union. For a French resident, the question no longer applies; access is closed, and the only relevant action is to organize the withdrawal or transfer of assets.

Alternatives to consider

Two approaches coexist. First option, favor a CASP approved provider: this is the choice of regulatory protection, verifiable in the ESMA public register. Coinbase, Kraken, Bybit EU, OKX or Bitvavo are among the fifteen largest global platforms holding this approval.

Second option, for users seeking above all catalog depth and tight costs: MEXC is a serious alternative to consider. The platform is among the largest in the world by volume according to CoinGecko, claims over 40 million users in more than 170 countries, and has built its reputation on terrain Binance long monopolized: finding assets before everyone else, and paying as little as possible to trade them.

Concretely, what MEXC offers

  • A catalog of more than 3,000 crypto-assets, nearly ten times Binance’s European offer.
  • Early listings: emerging projects often appear here before the large generalist platforms.
  • Fees among the most aggressive in the market: 0% maker and 0.05% taker in spot, 0% maker and 0.02% taker on futures, with up to 50% extra discount via the MX token.
  • A guarantee fund of 100 million dollars, proofs of reserves published every two months, and audits entrusted to third parties like Hacken.
  • Regular reward programs: staking, daily airdrops, launch campaigns.

The targeted profile is quite clear. If you trade actively, if you look for small caps unavailable elsewhere, or if the accumulation of transaction fees weighs on your performance, the platform is worth a try. Two caution points though: leverage can rise up to x500 on certain contracts, an open door to liquidation on a simple market twitch — and MEXC is not listed in the ESMA CASP register, so no consumer protection under European law. Check your eligibility before opening an account.

👉 Create a MEXC account takes a few minutes, and the platform regularly offers welcome campaigns to discover its tools while earning rewards.

The paradox of 2026 is here: the market’s most efficient platform is the one that just failed to pass the European regulatory threshold. Bullish scenario: approval obtained in another member state would reopen the European passport within a few quarters. Bearish scenario: the window closes and European users settle permanently elsewhere. Next deadline to watch? October 1, 2026, date for closing margin positions and loans.

Is Binance still accessible in France?

No. Since July 1, 2026, the platform no longer offers crypto-asset services to French residents. Existing accounts can withdraw their assets.

Are my funds blocked?

No. The system provides an orderly exit: withdrawals and transfers remain possible, as well as the closure of positions.

Is Binance reliable?

Technically yes: never insolvent, published reserves. Regulatively, its history and lack of MiCA approval justify particular caution.

What to replace Binance with?

Either a CASP approved provider for regulatory protection, or a platform like MEXC for the depth of the catalog and low fees, considering its non-approved status.
