Bitcoin's Whales Add 43,000 BTC in 60 Days
The large holders of bitcoin seem to be returning to buying. Around 43,000 BTC have reportedly been accumulated over 60 days, according to data from CryptoQuant. The movement contrasts with previous months marked by more sales. For now, this return to buying looks more like a change in behavior than a real supply shock.

In brief
- Around 43,000 BTC have been accumulated in 60 days by a category of large wallets tracked by CryptoQuant.
- This represents a theoretical average close to 717 BTC per day, without meaning that purchases were regular.
- At the same time, 28,000 BTC returned to centralized platforms in three weeks, which invites us to relativize the signal.
Whales return to buying, but supply remains available
The change in behavior is notable. After several months of selling, some large holders seem to have started to strengthen their positions again, with around 43,000 BTC accumulated over two months.
However, this recovery takes place in a market where bitcoins continue to flow towards platforms. Cointribune reported on August 18th the return of 28,000 BTC to exchanges.
However, the two numbers do not describe the same thing. The 43,000 BTC relate to a cohort of wallets tracked by CryptoQuant, excluding exchanges and mining pools. The 28,000 BTC correspond to an increase in reserves held on platforms. So it would be misleading to simply subtract one from the other.
According to Bitcoin.com News, purchases resumed notably when bitcoin was around 60,000 dollars. BTC now trades around 69,600 dollars, after surpassing the 65,000 dollar zone, a level that remains important for measuring demand strength.
What the data mainly shows is a change in attitude: some large wallets seem less inclined to sell and are starting to take exposure again. However, it does not allow to know how much BTC has actually left the market permanently.
43,000 BTC in 60 days, a figure to handle with caution
Reported over 60 days, the 43,000 BTC represent about 717 BTC per day. This average gives an idea of the magnitude of the movement but does not describe the daily reality of purchases. The accumulation may well have been concentrated over a few periods.
The movement is similar to that observed at the end of July. Cointribune then noted more than 20,000 BTC accumulated by large wallets, notably when the price was under 65,000 dollars.
However, it is impossible to directly add these two figures. The observed periods overlap and the groups of wallets tracked are not necessarily identical.
It is also necessary to keep in mind how on-chain data works. CryptoQuant explains that it identifies and groups addresses to distinguish exchanges, miners, funds, and other actors. These classifications are regularly refined. They therefore offer a good reading of trends but not a perfect snapshot of each holder.
Maintaining above $65,000 will serve as a test
Whales’ accumulation will gain more weight if it continues while bitcoin faces strong selling pressure again. A simultaneous decrease in exchange reserves would also reinforce the idea that more BTC are held long-term.
Conversely, if platform reserves continue to increase or if large wallets start distributing their holdings again, the 43,000 BTC accumulated will mainly appear as a temporary repositioning.
Even the dollar valuation of the movement must be taken with caution. The source mentions about 2.75 billion dollars in one place and 2.9 billion elsewhere. The volume of 43,000 BTC remains thus the most reliable indicator to remember.
For the market, the next signal will mainly be bitcoin’s ability to stay above 65,000 dollars. Cointribune recently reported a brief passage above this level. At 69,600 dollars, BTC now trades significantly above this zone. A lasting establishment at these levels, accompanied by persistent buying from large wallets, would give more weight to the scenario of a recovery.
For now, the 43,000 BTC accumulated mainly show that some whales have changed behavior. It is an encouraging signal but still insufficient to conclude a real supply shock or a sustainable bitcoin recovery.
