Avalanche Co-founder Kevin Sekniqi has unveiled his personal wishlist for blockchain development in the coming year. This follows the publication of Vitalik Buterin’s Ethereum roadmap for 2024. While these are his own aspirations, this plan reflects many projects already scheduled for the crypto space in 2024.

Crypto avalanche ambitions 2024

Significant Technical Upgrades to Compete with Ethereum

Kevin Sekniqi first envisions radical improvements to the Avalanche protocol itself. The main goal is to drastically reduce the crypto transaction finality time — that is, the time required to validate and secure a transaction on the blockchain. Currently at 2 seconds, this period could go down to less than 250 milliseconds according to Sekniqi.

Furthermore, he wants to implement a mode of ‘optimistic fast finality’, which would achieve finality in only 1 or 2 rounds of validation, or in a fraction of a second. Such performance gains would propel Avalanche to the rank of the fastest networks, significantly improving the experience for users and crypto developers.

Other avenues discussed include increasing network capacity, as well as a profound overhaul of the source code to simplify it. Not to mention upgrading the databases to optimize read and write actions and improving subnets. The aim is to make Avalanche a technically flawless blockchain.

An Optimized Crypto Ecosystem to Conquer Developers and Users

Beyond technical aspects, Kevin Sekniqi insists on developments aimed at practically improving the use of Avalanche. This would be beneficial for both developers and crypto users.

For example, he wishes to bring components like AWM (Avalanche Wallet Messaging) and Teleporter to maturity. These tools should allow nearly instantaneous transitions of assets and data between the different Avalanche chains. The goal is to offer the smoothest possible experience on the network.

Another objective is to evolve the HyperSDK, Avalanche’s development kit, to turn it into a complete toolbox. This would make it easy to customize all components of the chains, thus facilitating experimentation for developers.

Finally, Sekniqi has high hopes for HyperVM, the native virtual machine developed by Ava Labs. It will unlock performance levels previously unachievable on Avalanche. According to him, it could revolutionize the capabilities of the network and crypto itself.

Through this roadmap revealed by Kevin Sekniqi, we see the great ambitions of Avalanche. With the unspoken goal of catching up to Ethereum. Whether in terms of raw network performance or user experience, the planned developments are as numerous as they are promising. Now it remains to be seen whether this will be enough for Avalanche to establish itself against an Ethereum in full maturation.
