Galaxy Digital Secures $460M to Fuel Helios AI Data Center Expansion
Galaxy Digital, founded by Mike Novogratz, is expanding its transition from crypto operations to artificial intelligence. The company has secured a $460 million private investment to advance the transformation of its former Bitcoin mining site in Texas into a large data center focused on AI and high-performance computing. The new funding reflects a wider shift among crypto-native companies redirecting their infrastructure toward AI as demand for computing power accelerates.
In brief
- Galaxy Digital secured a $460 million private investment to accelerate its shift from crypto mining to artificial intelligence infrastructure.
- The new capital comes through the sale of approximately 12.78 million shares, including direct company issuance and shares from senior executives.
- The investment follows a $1.4 billion loan facility arranged in August to fund Helios development and expansion.
Galaxy Secures New Funds for Helios Project
According to the announcement, Galaxy reached an agreement with one of the world’s biggest asset managers for the $460 million investment. The transaction involves the purchase of Galaxy’s Class A common stock at $36 per share, covering more than 9 million shares directly from the company and another 3.75 million shares from senior executives.
Here is a breakdown of the key details of the investment and how Galaxy plans to move forward:
- The combined sale of roughly 12.78 million shares amounts to approximately $460 million
- Galaxy plans to use the proceeds for general corporate purposes and to accelerate development of the Helios data center campus in West Texas
- The Helios facility is expected to provide 133 megawatts of computing capacity in the first half of 2026, forming the foundation for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing operations
- Completion of the investment is anticipated around October 17, 2025, following standard closing steps, including approval from the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Novogratz said the investment strengthens Galaxy’s financial position and supports its expansion into large-scale data infrastructure. He emphasized that “having one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated institutional investors make such a significant investment in our company will support our strategic vision and our ability to build leading businesses across digital assets and data centers.“
Helios Development Backed by $1.4 Billion Financing and Partnerships
This latest investment follows the closing of a $1.4 billion loan facility in August, which was arranged to fund the Helios datacenter campus. The company said that financing will cover the full cost of the site’s initial upgrades and expansion, enabling the first phase of power delivery for AI and high-performance computing through a long-term partnership with CoreWeave Inc.
At that time, Novogratz explained that Galaxy is advancing with a disciplined and strategic approach to develop Helios into one of the largest and most advanced AI data center facilities globally. He attributed the project’s progress to careful planning and consistent execution by the team.
As part of the facility’s development, CoreWeave has committed to the full 800 megawatts allocated to the Helios project. Based on the terms of these agreements, Galaxy expects to generate average annual revenue exceeding $1 billion over the 15-year duration of its partnership with CoreWeave.
The combination of Galaxy’s recent financing provides the resources to advance development of the Helios project while supporting the company’s ongoing transition from cryptocurrency mining to large-scale AI infrastructure.
