MetaMask's Agent Wallet lets AI trade without giving it the keys to your crypto
Artificial intelligence has spread everywhere, from politics to defense, law, and now crypto trading. Our daily life has shifted, and digital wallets are no exception to this revolution. MetaMask has just taken a decisive step by launching Agent Wallet, a tool that delegates your transactions to AI agents. The promise is appealing, but how far can one really trust a machine?

In brief
- MetaMask launches Agent Wallet on August 6, 2026, a non-custodial wallet that delegates transactions to AI agents.
- Users set spending limits, allowed protocols, and choose between Guard Mode and Beast Mode.
- Transactions go through simulation, Blockaid analysis, and MEV protection, with coverage up to $10,000 per month.
- Coinbase and MoonPay are already in the AI wallet market, but MetaMask bets on security and control.
An AI agent in your wallet: MetaMask’s revolution is underway
MetaMask officially launched Agent Wallet on August 6, 2026, after an early access phase that gathered about 200 users. This non-custodial wallet allows AI agents to execute on-chain transactions, but only within user-defined limits.
Specifically, the agent can monitor markets, identify opportunities, and perform swaps, perpetuals, or positions on prediction markets. Compatibility extends to frameworks like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and OpenClaw, as well as networks like Hyperliquid and EVM chains.
“The next big expansion of the onchain economy will not be carried only by humans,” says Joe Lubin, founder of Consensys. The user keeps control over settings: spending limits, allowed protocols, and risk preferences. Two modes are available: default Guard Mode, or Beast Mode for the more daring.
But does this autonomy really have limits?
Autonomy or recklessness? Crypto’s safety nets put to the test
Agent Wallet stands out for its security-focused approach, a major argument in the crypto industry. Every potential transaction goes through simulation, Blockaid threat analysis, and MEV protection. If it passes these steps but causes a loss, Transaction protection covers up to $10,000 per month.
This security-focused model is why Agent Wallet is built around rules, not blind delegation.

Gas abstraction allows agents to pay fees in the transferred token without holding the network’s native token. Still, risks remain: injection attacks, malicious contracts, or overly broad protocol lists.
Beast Mode reduces interruptions but exposes the user to more vulnerabilities. The line between autonomy and rashness remains blurred.
AI agents in DeFi: revolution or disaster waiting to happen?
MetaMask joins a booming market where Coinbase (Agentic Wallets) and MoonPay (MoonAgents) have already established themselves. The AI agent market could grow from $5.4 billion in 2024 to $236 billion in 2034, according to the World Economic Forum.
The first users of Agent Wallet, seasoned traders, will define practices. Their behavior will be decisive: will they adopt strict restrictions or disable safeguards for convenience?
The risk of an AI wallet is not always about stealing the private key. Sometimes the problem occurs earlier, warns an analysis from CoinSpot. Misconfiguration can turn a restricted agent into a quasi-free one, exposing funds to unsuspected dangers.
Key Figures of the Agent Wallet Launch
- Launch date: August 6, 2026
- Early access: ~200 users
- Modes: Guard (default), Beast (opt-in)
- Protection: up to $10,000/month
- Supported frameworks: 6 (Claude Code, Codex…)
The AI wallet wars are on: Coinbase, MoonPay, MetaMask enter the ring
Competition intensifies in the AI wallet sector, and MetaMask holds a major asset with its 26% market share. The arrival of Agent Wallet disrupts the balance established by Coinbase and MoonPay. The $10,000 coverage and gas abstraction are key differentiators.
Joe Lubin, founder of Consensys, summarizes the ambition:
Agents will manage real capital and make real financial decisions, and the underlying infrastructure must be up to the task.
The success of Agent Wallet will depend on adoption by crypto traders and developers. The central question remains: will users trust algorithms to manage their assets, or prefer to control every decision themselves?
The rise of artificial intelligences is transforming crypto trading, and MetaMask takes a step forward with Agent Wallet. APIs for trading bots and AI agents now offer powerful tools to automate strategies. The future of decentralized finance is on this tightrope between innovation and caution, autonomy and control.
