Artificial intelligence takes a new step in the crypto universe. On June 8, 2026, MetaMask launches Agent Wallet. This is a solution designed to allow autonomous AI agents to execute DeFi operations while maintaining human control over funds. Behind this announcement, the well-known Web3 wallet developed by Consensys targets a market of AI agents that some projections estimate at $236 billion by 2034.

MetaMask transmits a crypto key to an AI

In Brief

  • MetaMask deploys Agent Wallet, a web3 wallet specifically configured for artificial intelligences.
  • Consensys targets the rapidly expanding ecosystem of AI agents, valued at several hundred billion dollars.
  • A massive arrival of algorithmic liquidity and increased competition are expected for human traders in the crypto market.

MetaMask wants to reconcile AI autonomy and crypto security

Until now, operating an AI agent on DeFi was a technical DIY effort. MetaMask, however, changes the game with a dedicated and self-custodial infrastructure, designed from the start for autonomous agents.

The company claims to have designed Agent Wallet to eliminate the compromise between autonomy and fund protection. Each transaction thus automatically goes through several controls:

  • prior simulation;
  • threat analysis via Blockaid;
  • protection against MEV attacks;
  • human validation via two-factor authentication in certain cases.

Machine intelligences will increasingly interact, coordinate, and verify operations on crypto rails.

Such was the statement of Joe Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and CEO of Consensys, before adding that these AI agents will soon manage real capital as well as real financial decisions.

A wallet designed for the AI agents economy

Agent Wallet works as a self-custodial wallet. The user therefore retains control of their crypto assets while delegating certain actions to an AI.

The tool offers two modes:

  • Guard Mode, with spending limits, authorized protocols, and human validation outside of defined rules
  • Beast Mode, intended for crypto traders and developers seeking more flexibility

MetaMask also indicates that crypto transactions deemed safe by its Transaction Protection system benefit from coverage of up to $10,000.

At launch, Agent Wallet supports nine crypto networks:

  • Ethereum;
  • Linea;
  • Arbitrum;
  • Avalanche;
  • Optimism;
  • Base;
  • Polygon;
  • BNB Smart Chain;
  • Sei.

The solution provides access to swaps, prediction markets, perpetual contracts, liquidity pools, and Hyperliquid.

MetaMask also highlights compatibility with several AI frameworks including:

  • OpenAI Codex;
  • Claude Code;
  • OpenClaw;
  • Cursor;
  • Hermes Agent from Nous Research.

A new strategic battle for crypto

This initiative comes as autonomous agents are gradually establishing themselves as new players in the digital market. A recently published analysis by Bernstein notably highlights the rotation of capital towards AI, at the expense of bitcoin.

According to figures cited by MetaMask, the global AI agents market could grow from $5.4 billion in 2024 to $236 billion in 2034. At the same time, Gartner estimates that a quarter of corporate security breaches could involve the exploitation of AI agents by 2028.

With Agent Wallet, MetaMask is therefore trying to take a central position in this convergence between artificial intelligence and decentralized finance. If autonomous agents become tomorrow’s major users of blockchain infrastructures, the battle to secure their transactions could well shape the next phase of growth in the crypto sector.
