Bitcoin is often presented as "digital gold." In institutional portfolios, its classification is sometimes quite different. A Bitwise survey conducted among 15 major institutions shows that several still place their crypto investments in pockets dedicated to technology, innovation, or venture capital. Yet Bitcoin remains the common asset among all respondents exposed to cryptocurrencies. Allocations range from 0.5% to 13% of investable assets, with a majority between 1% and 2%.

MERGE Madrid returns on October 27, 28 and 29, 2026, between the Bolsa de Madrid for the institutional summit and the Palacio de Cibeles for the main congress. The event positions itself as the meeting point between banks, regulators and the crypto ecosystem in Southern Europe and Latin America. The Bitget hack ultimately affected about 387.5 million dollars in assets, compared to an initial on-chain estimate of 228 million dollars. The platform claims to have contained the attack but keeps withdrawals suspended during its security checks.

The crypto market is going through a new phase after a strong price increase. This rise pushes some holders to sell in order to quickly realize gains. However, the pace of profit taking remains lower than that observed at previous peaks. Bitcoin gained 44% over the quarter, reaching nearly 85,000 dollars. After three consecutive quarters of decline, flows to ETFs show that demand remains active and supported in the current crypto market.

Circle and Tether froze on Friday part of the assets of an address linked to the Bitget hack, about 318,000 dollars of stablecoins. The amount remains marginal compared to the 387.5 million dollars stolen. Most of the loot is held in ether, an asset that no issuer can block.

The group is preparing an evolution of its dividend policy. The company wants to obtain the agreement of its shareholders to modify the payment schedule of its four preferred shares, including STRC. If the proposal passes, each calendar day will become a record date, with payment on the next business day. This measure brings Strategy closer to a model already adopted by Strive, another bitcoin treasury company. The project comes as STRC seeks to stabilize its price after its drop in June.

American Bitcoin ETFs remain in the green, but the pace has clearly changed. After a record $998.9 million inflow on Monday, flows dropped to $190.7 million on Thursday, September 24, a decline of about 81% in three sessions. The streak remains positive, however: six consecutive days of inflows have brought more than $2.8 billion to the funds. Bitcoin itself retreated around $83,800 after exceeding $87,000 at the start of the week.

Bill Gates thinks that artificial intelligence now holds enough power to trigger events that could lead to up to one billion deaths. Indeed, in an excerpt from an interview given to the American show "Meet the Press", the Microsoft co-founder essentially invokes the danger that the use of the most advanced models by malicious actors could represent. He calls for swift public authority intervention, as he considers self-regulation by tech companies insufficient.
