Ardent advocate of BTC, Edward Snowden firmly believes that Bitcoin remains the greatest monetary advancement since the invention of money. But why does this crypto represent such a revolution?

BTC, an opportunity for the global financial system

Bitcoin was created in 2009 by a mysterious figure known by the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. Their true identity remains unknown to this day.

Bitcoin is a decentralized virtual currency that operates on a peer network, without intermediaries or central authority. It is based on blockchain technology, which secures and verifies transactions. The flagship crypto thus offers possibilities for:

  • innovation,
  • competitiveness,
  • inclusion,
  • transparency,
  • resilience,
  • diversification.

Bitcoin is a means to resist government surveillance and censorship. It even allows to preserve freedom and human rights. Indeed, BTC enables anonymous transactions, without going through banks or financial institutions.

Bitcoin thus ensures the confidentiality and sovereignty of users, who can escape the interference and restrictions of states. Snowden sees in Bitcoin a tool for dissent and democracy. Snowden was pursued and exiled for exposing abuses of power.

Bitcoin, a fast-growing market

Bitcoin has been experiencing exponential growth since its creation. It hit record levels in 2024, exceeding $52,000 on February 18. That represents more than 40 times its value in 2017.

This increase is explained by a strong demand, especially from institutional investors who see in BTC a safe haven, an alternative to gold or simply a means of diversifying their portfolio. It is also explained by the approval of several Bitcoin ETFs by the SEC.

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin (BTC) price is about $52,268 with a market capitalization of $594,019,000,000.
